: My Peavey bass w/ passive, humbuckin' pups (through Hartke head + 410 cab) served me well for years of rock playing. But I've started to learn slap bass and just haven't been able to get the rich punchy sounds that I hear others get. I'm looking for a new slap bass in the $400-$600 range and would like some suggestions. What else should I look for besides bright J style p-ups? Are there any brands out there that are well known as 'slap' basses? Thanks tons.
answer---hard rock maple neck, the abilty to scoop mids out easily(like a music man)bolt-on neck, straight neck with looow action
