I thought my year long search for the right bass was finally over when I found the Yamaha TRP6 from an old brochure. Now I've found out that nowadays it's the TRP6II which has a narrower neck which isn't good as I'm a huge fan of Wooten and Patitucci. Then there's new pick-ups, "beefy humbuckers", not at all good as again I'm a huge fan of Patitucci AND JAZZ! I'm afraid this model is made for these heavy-metal-super-stars who have to be heard under stacks of Marshalls blasted at full by our thin-stringed friends. Also the color options are worse as you can't get it anymore in Charcoal Gray. Or the next best color that I don't remember right now. And the overall look is spoiled becouse of the close together strings, the way too room consuming, way too big, ugly pick-ups, simpler body construction and the colors, in deed the colors!

Mostly I wanted to write on this board becouse I'm very pissed at Yamaha bass development for not keeping the old model. But at the same time I'd like to hear your opinions if you have tried them both if there's big differences with the sound?

Of course you can say that buy the Patitucci model it's still the same. But last time I had a bath it was just regular water I was in, not hundred dollar bills.

Inspite of this post I'm still thinking of getting the bass but the old one I would have bought in a blink with the price I'm getting the TRP6II.
