: This is an all encompassing question that I am very curious about.
: How SERIOUS are you about the bass?
I've played bass for 17 years now and I can't imagine ever quitting. I've met too many musicians who say... "Yeah, I used to play but don't find the time any more, or my job doesn't allow it (or whatever)". I don't think that will ever happen to me. The last 5 years, I've been playing pretty regularly with several different bands but if that ever changes and I have no "group" to play with, I'm sure I'll still be rehearsing at home along with CD's or whatever. I love the bottom end and will never give it up. I have a day job and music to me is a release from the daily pressures of work and life in general. I think "Seriousness" is hard to define. I don't think that rehearseing 12 hours a day necessarily makes you a more serious player (although, that is some serious dedication). I believe it is all about the attitude you have when playing, whether it is by yourself or with a group. Its all about the love of the instrument and music in general.
