: I currently own and play a Mexican Fender Precision bass (1995) but I'm also looking for a new bass with a more flexible tones, including the famous "Jazz Bass" tones which I happen to like a lot. I have checked some other basses including a Yamaha BBG 4 II (very good) and an Ibanez Soundgear 3?0 (can't remember the model for sure, but it had a great neck and decent tones). A few weeks ago, I came across a Precision Lyte Standard. Active tones were great and it was really lightweight!
: - My first question is, does anyone own a Precision Lyte (std. or deluxe) and do you recommend it?
: - When I checked fender's www.bassstreet.com site, I've noticed that the Lyte models were missing (but they are still listed at fender.com) and they seem to be replaced by Fender Zone Basses. Body shape and pickup setup are almost similar: musicman-like cavities and P + J + active controls. Did anyone try these basses, or do you have any idea as to the possible price range of these Fender Zone series instruments?
: - And last but not least, are these basses (precision lyte or zone)the right choice for someone searching an active bass with jazz pickups and fender quality?
: Thanks in advance and sorry for my English
I've been playing a P-Lyte for about 3 years now and really like it. The light weight is great on those long gigs, and the narrow Jazz style neck is just right for me. The pickups sound good, but weren't as warm sounding as I like, so I replaced them with Bartolinis. The picture is me playing it on tour in Japan last year.
