: I own a 1962 Fender Jazz bass guitar and was wondering what the value of it might be today. It has all original parts, pots, pickups, frets etc. but over the years the body was scratched and in my zest to have a good looking bass I had the finished removed to the timber and it now has a varnished timebr body. As I say, other than that its in original condition.
: Any ideas on value or marketability.

Michael, your bass IS definitely worth money. I'm not an expert, but, I know a little about Pre-CBS Fenders. As El Pajaro said, the fact that you striped the original finish off will diminish the value, but, if everything else is original as you say, it shouldn't be that much. I'm in NYC, and in April, a guitar shop in Greenwich Village called Matt Umanov Music had a MINT 1966 Jazz bass in the window, and they were asking $4,000.00 for it! They also had a 1964
Precision that looked like it went through a war, and that was going for $3,500.00! If your bass is a 1962 Jazz, and all that's not original is the paint, you have a nest egg there I'd say. Mandolin Bros. web site is: www.mandoweb.com Contact them. I did once, and they're very knowledgable and very polite, and they got back to me in a day. If I may, just let me caution you; whatever you find out it's worth, don't jump at the first offer. Vintage instruments only increase in value as the years pass, so if it's worth $3,000.00
today, it could be worth a lot more in just a few years. Take your time with this. Elderly instruments web site is:www.elderly.com but, be careful; a few people including myself accidentally wandered into a Social Secuity site due to its odd name.

Good luck, and take your time.
