: I'm just curious to see how often you change your bass strings. I have a six string Ibanez that I have to change the strings about every 3 months, otherwise I'll end up breaking one on stage, which is no fun. I think part of the problem is the bridge on my bass requires a sharp bend where the string lays over the bridge but it only happens after I've had strings on it for several months. Anyway, I digress!

: So how often do you change your strings? I guess another required question would be, how often do you play that bass as well?

: On a side note, I recently tried boiling my strings on my fretless because they were sounding dull and while I had the strings off, I cleaned the neck with some lemon oil. I'm not sure which made more of a difference, the cleaning of the neck or the boiling of the strings, but between the two, it made a big difference in the brightness and tone.

DDazey,
I had an old short-scale Kustom KrazyKat bass (ripped off a few years ago, dammit). I had it for about 15 years on and off, and I *never* changed strings on it; just boiled them every once in awhile. Worked fine. :-)

Never busted one, either.

Between boiling the strings and conditioning the neck, boiling was *definitely* what made the big difference! You're removing all the oils, dirt, and gunk from the strings, so they're going to vibrate more freely.

Hope that helps!
