I've got a Spirit XT-25 5 string that replaced an Ibanez 405 5 string. I'm a beginner bass player so YMMV. The fit and finish are good. The whole bass is painted black except for the rosewood(?) fretboard. It's heavier than you would expect, because the bass is one piece of maple, neck through with maple wings. The Steinberger tuning system is great, but it does limit your choice in strings. Flatwounds are not available in 5-string sets, but are in 4 string sets. Otherwise your choices are stainless and nickel plated roundwounds. The balance seated is hard to get used to, because the body is so small. Standing, with a strap, I can't get a comfortable playing position, the straplocks are too far back. Nevertheless, I really like this bass: it's compact and travels well, the neck feels really good (to me), and I get a good tone. I'm going to try raising the pickups a little with shims, because the bridge pickup is lower in volume than the neck pickup. Obviously, not perfect, but a good deal for the price. I would buy it again.
