: First of all, excuse me for my bad english.
: Next week i´m going to studio with a metal band. I´m going to record the bass. The tune the guitars in C.I have a washburn tuned C-F-Bb-Eb. No problem.
: Also I have a Warwick Streamer Stage I 5 strings with standard tuning (B-E-A-D-G)
: I am able to play the lines with standard tuning. But my question is: Would be bad for the warwick if a tune up the strings half tone (C-F-Bb-Eb-Ab)? By this way I could work with the 5th string like the fourth string of a normal bass.
: Can you help me please?
: Thank you.
: Peace.

Hey there Rogi,
In my opinion, no, tuning the 5 string bass 1 half tone up shouldn't be too much of a problem. However, I do have some advice for you: first, if you're going to use the new tuning for just a couple of songs, remember to retune to the original tuning right after you're done. Second, if you plan to keep the bass tuned like that for a long time, perhaps you should restring it with a lighter set of strings. Why am I telling you all this? Well, if you tune your bass to a higher pitch, you are putting a lot of extra tension on the bass neck, and without a truss rod adjustment, it could make the neck twist and/or warp. Hope this helped. Buena suerte and keep your basses way up front in the mix,

El Pájaro
