I don't left hand muting is wrong, you need to continue with that but also complement it with rigth hand muting techniques. What works well for me when playing fingerstyle is to anchor the thumb on the string above the one I'm playing so if I'm playing on the A string I anchor my right hand thumb on the E string, when playing on the D string I anchor on the A string and so on. I takes some getting used but works well. When slapping I actually use forearm to mute the E and B strings when slapping A, D and G, i.e. I gently let my forearm and upper part of my right hand palm mute the B and E strings. This also help to keep your technique controled. It's essentially the same technique Alain Caron uses to keep his amazing slapping controlled. Check his site out to get evidence.
