: Please let me know any successful settings to get a decent string bass emulation. I'm cranking the bass, and backing off the mid and treble setting. I've been using the Jazz amp/cab combo on the Bass Pod. I've got a pretty warm sound, but could be better. Thanks!
It takes more than just the BOD to make an electric sound like an upright. Try palm muting (rest the palm of your hand lightly on the bridge saddle)and pluck with your thumb. Upright basses don't sustain like electric basses do, and the muting cuts off the sustain, then of course you have to play with your thumb because your fingers are out of position. This will give you a pretty good simulation of that upright thump, then quick decay. Experiment with the amount of pressure you put on the strings until you get a good sound. This, mixed with the settings you have should give you a good approximation of an upright, although you may want to add a little midrange. I've used this live, and gotten very good results.
