: Hey bass folks. Common topic. But maybe hepful for everybody. What brands/models/gauges are your favourite when it's about STRINGS... And why. I've been quite happy with some GHS these last months, but I'm gonna try a Dean Markley Blue Steel set for tomorrow gig. Said to last longer...

Al,
I hate to admit it, but would you believe that in over 20 years of playing, I've *never* bought a new set of strings?

My old bass (my first) was a short-scale Kustom Krazy Kat. I got it used, and it had a set of roundwounds on it; none of the strings ever broke, so I never bothered to change them (yes, I *know* I'm slack).

I *did* boil them every so often, though...

My new bass - a Kramer Focus 420S (P-Bass clone) - is only a year old, and I haven't had a reason to change the strings yet.

C'est la vie...

-Bob
