On monday I played what I consider to be my first gig.

At my school there is this tradition of having a christmas diner dance in your last year (a little like an English version of the proms really). Everyone goes and buys rediculously expensive suits / dresses and a lot of people hire limos for a big entrance.
Everyone takes this event really seriously, because this is the last time we'll all be together at once, and my band got to play a short 20 minute set after the dinner.

It went really well, the applause was deafening.
At the end of our best song I get to play a bass solo (Geezer Butler's solo before N.I.B. on Sabbath's first album).
I started to play and immediatly the audience went crazy. I was trying to concentrate as hard as I could (i'm not that good yet, and I make a lot of mistakes) and trying not to grin like an idiot at the same time.

All week people have been giving me tons of compliments, today an English teacher (huge santana fan) was talking to me and he said that he loved the walking bass lines and the solos.

I'm feeling fantastic, like i've really accomplished something and it feels great when the audience gives you a huge round of applause.
It was simply incredible to play in front of all our friends and to have people listen to you and appreciate your music.
I'd love to do it all again. I was talking to the rythym guitarist and we decided to arrange a gig in the summer before we all leave school for good. We haven't been playing together long (about one year) and we only get to practice for about two hours a week so we'll need to work hard to learn some new material.

I love playing the bass, nothing beats it (well, there is something but that has nothing to do with playing bass!)

I hope you all have a great christmas, and a happy new year.
