: Hi, experts
: My band and I feel about as ready as we can be to get out and play, but a question pops up. What kind of amplifier will I need? And what about the size of the cabinets (is that the right word?)? Now I know this is somewhat a big question, but anyway. I'm planning to rent because all I have to make do with is a 14.75x13x9.125 (if that means anything to anybody) and only 20W (can that be true?)and they'll probably be able to help me in the store. But still I'd like to know a bit so as to scan the (second-hand) market.
: Hope anyone might be able to help in spite of my question being a bit vague.
: And a merry christmas, too

It's not so much what *kind* of amplifier you'll need as how much *power* you'll need.
For playing onstage, you'll want an amp that's at *least* 100 watts; bass requires a *lot* of power behind it, so the more power, the better.
The physical dimensions of the amplifier aren't all that important, either (except when you're trying to lift the damn thing); the number and arrangement of the speakers is the important factor.
For your purposes, you might want to look for an amp with 100 watts and one 15" speaker; that's a pretty common configuration, so you shouldn't have too much problem finding a good used one.
Hope that helps!
P.S. Merry Christmas to you, too! :-)
