You're right that the Sterling's got a slimmer neck and also a smaller body. It's also got 22 frets as opposed to the 21 of the Stingray 4. The pickups and the electronics are similar to those of the Stingray 5 giving it more flexibility on terms of sound with series, parallell and singel coil operation switchable. It also comes standard with a three band EQ as opposed to the standard two band of the Stingray 4. I think the Stingray 5 in reality is a Sterling 5 so if you have tried that one you can draw some conclusions as to how the Sterling sounds.
