: i made a precission bass with a fretless jazz neck. it has passive emg select pickups. i am trying to get a "oboe" or "deep woodwind" sound. does anyone have any suggestions on how to obtain this sound? possibly different compassitors???? please help me

Yes, you're right... changing caps can change the tone. Experiment with small changes in capacitance. But I think you are only going to get close. A lot of the sound that makes a fretless unique is a combination of the bass, the strings used and for the most part, the touch the player has. Remember, Jaco started out with a fretted bass and had a unique sound then. When he switched to a fretless (even if it was a butchered fingerboard) he still had a unique sound. It was all him (and to some extent, the bass) and his touch that gave him that sound. I think with lots of practice, you can get that sound too. Good luck,
