: I recently bought a custom 5-string bass from Dave Pushic and I'm find it very neck heavy. The head stock end of the bass sags downward making it harder to relax my left hand (having to hold it up as well). Is there anything I might be able to do to fix this? Perhaps a different, yet safe position for a strap peg?
: Thanks much!
The pressure from your right thumb should keep the neck in the right position. Usually, very little force is required to balance a bass. You're absolutely right though - you can't really play properly if you're holding up your bass with your left hand. With a little practice, you should be able to take your left hand off the neck and have the instrument remain in position.
Hope you find this helpful.
