My fretless doen't have fretlines, but has position markers on the side.

The fretlines could help especially a beginner, but your intonation should be based on your ear. It should become a reflex to listen and make a very small adjustment when playing a fretless (or an upright).

Remember, fretless is not as forgiving as fretted when it comes to technique; so:

Thumb behind the neck
Hand perpendicular to the neck (not slanted)
Curl thos fingers slightly - play on the tips
Use all four fingers - One finger per fret
