hey derek,

i picked up a fender fretless this past summer. it came w/o the lines of course. i've been playing over 20 years with frets. i'm partial to not having the lines on the fretboard. the dots worked great for me in the beginning. but that's just me. as i played more, the muscle memory and ears help my fingers to land where they need to be. i found the dots to me less distracting.
but do what is going to be comfortable to you. that is the most important thing. good luck in your decision!

: Hi all.

: I am going to build a 5-string fretless bass. I 've been playing 4-string fretted basses for more than 15 years but this is my first fretless. Many bassists (including one of the top-three in Greece!) insist that I should ask for fretlines. But I have heard people saying that when you are *really* able to play you don't use them anyway!

: Any help will be appreciated.
