: I have noticed that I can more easily bend the G and D strings of my old short scale 4-string easier that I can my 35 inch scale 5-string. Is this my imagination? Both sets of strings are reasonably new, same brand, guage, etc...
What Derek had to say was right; physics do play a part. Another reason may be that with the wider neck, the leverage you have with your fingers to reach across to bend the strings may be less due to the extra distance. Not as easy with a 5'er than a 4. Left hand and finger excercises can only help.
