You won't really hurt the bass by detuning, but the tension you're letting out of the strings will affect the bow of your neck. You probably need to tweak the truss rod tension a bit. You'll be able to find many good articles about this on the net. My suggestion to you is that you tune back up to standard tuning after you're through playing - this will allow your neck to return to its normal tension.
