Here's my 2 cents worth. And remember, this is my opinion. First, if that salesman at Mars Music worked in a store that sold violins, he'd be fired in a second! "You mean you want to learn violin? You can't do that! You've never played before and besides, they don't have frets!" Sound ridiculous? Of course it does. Like Bob mentioned, original basses didn't have frets and those players learned. You can too. You just have to train your ear as well as your hands. But it CAN be done. But in your case, you'll be best starting off with a qualified FRETLESS BASS instructor. Not all instructors play fretless and won't be able to teach you the special nuances it has. The bottom line is... If you want it bad enough, you'll find a way to get it done. Good luck, Dave
