: hello everyone, i've been playing bass for a little over a year. I had been playing mostly with a pick until recently when i decided to play with my fingers more. The only problem is that my fingers get really sore after i play and i get blisters a lot on them. I remember reading something about lubricating ur fingers a while back in a magazine but i dont really remember too much about it. Anyways, its really bothersome (not to mention painful) and i was wondering what everyone would advise? Oh and one more thing: i was wondering what any of you all do before performing to stay relaxed because i tend to get a bit nervous. Thanks a lot!
I've tried the super-glue trick too but only on very small cuts, never blisters. For hardening the finger tips, here's what I did until I built up calluses: I would turn on the stove about halfway. I'd turn it off then quickly brush my fingers across the hot element a few times. Once a day for about a week and I could push nails through a board with the finger tips. Not for everyone, but it worked for me while I was practicing, practicing, practicing!
