: Okay... I've never seen anything like this before (no, this wasn't drug-induced ;). K.. first of all, my gear:

: Gallien Krueger 1001RB head
: Gallien Krueger 410RBH cab

: I was playing fairly hard at a rehearsal with my band the other night, but not necessarily loud.. master volume about 1/2, bass EQ at 12:00. My fellow band members saw this weird bluish glow around each of the 4 woofers which tended to come and go depending on certain notes I was playing. It wasn't a sharp staticky sparking kind of glow; it was more like a soft halo kind of glow. Apparently, it appeared as if there may have been something glowing in the cabinet too..

: NOW, the funny thing is there was zero burning smell or distortion from the cab, and it seems to still work perfectly. There was no excessive heat or anything, so it would seem that there was no electrical arcing or overloading going on.

: My question to you: what the hell was this??? :) Has anyone ever seen speakers do this before? What could have caused this to happen?

: cheers,
: Colin :)

I think what you saw was the tweeter protection device. Many tweeter equiped bass cabinets have an aircraft quality light bulb in the circuit that sort of acts like a fuse. But since it is a light bulb, it lights up while you are pushing your system. This does not necessarily mean you were pushing your cabinet hard, but you were probably giving your tweeter a work-out. Take a look at where your crossover is set.
