: I play a Ashbory at ALL the gigs our band perform at. I found it very easy to play without having to look at the strings all the time and the full sound is amazing. We are a heavy rock/metal band called Outsider and can be seen/heard on www.outsider.fslife.co.uk
: : : : Hey, has anyone of you ever played the DeArmond Ashbory
: : Bass? It must sound quite strange (18 inch scale???,
: : silicone rubber strings)...
: : : Tony Levin (king Crimson)
: : : did alot of Ashbory work.
: : : there is a cool thread over on the Fender discussion page
: : about the Ashbory.
: : : You might wish to check it out there...

: : I checked out the forum and thread you mentioned. You're right, it is interesting. As Johnny Carson would say, "I did not know that".
: I owned one for a short period -- The Guild model. Great for projects, but not a practical bass to switch off to in the middle of the gig, I found. Also, even though I'm experienced at playing fretless, the scale was so small and the strings so fat, that the upper range was impractical to play in tune. helluva sound though, at a cheap price. Great for bluegrass, I'm told. Now I play a Godin A4 fretless, which has the same huge sound, a higher price, and is playable up the neck.
