: hi!!! i know this is going to start an online debate but here goes .was jaco realy that good!!in my opinion he was one of the greats but as much as i like his playing he does nothing for me .other bass players like bernard edwards (chic)john entwistle (the who)are much better in some ways ,entwistle has the most fantastic style and has brought forward the modern bass in many ways jaco never could..as for fretless you have tony franklin (the firm)and pino palladino who is one of my all time greats..iam not saying jaco is bad far from it but i hate seeing that young players see jaco as some sort of bass god when there are others who are and where just as important to our craft...anybody got any thoughts on the players i have named??if you have never heard of any of them i recomend you have a listen...thanks again and keep up the great work...
What Jaco did, was do it first. He was ( as I can remember ) the 1st electric bass player to do 2 things. 1. Bring the electric bass to the for front as a solo instrument and 2. introduce us to that beautiful fretless tone of his modified jazz bass. Was he great? Was Jimmy Hendricks great?
