: The Rickenbacker has a very distinctive sound. The Fender Precision is pretty versatile. Ultimately, it boils down to what you want to sound like.

: Both are big bucks. Seems like you ought to check these instruments out at a music store, even if you plan to mail order.

: BTW, I have never mail ordered a bass or a wife. Try three identical basses and you will still get three different tones. When I narrowed down what I wanted, I dragged my bass amp to the music store and tried out all the basses for 2 hours before I made a decision.

: : I'm wandering which one to buy I'm leaning to the Rickenbaker from what I understand it has a thinner neck and a very distict sound.I also know that the Fender has great bottom and great highs I'm mail ordering one Just want some input. Thanks Eddie Jammerson

Well, The Fender is....A Fender! There is nothing wrong with that! It has a very familiar tone that will cover a lot of ground...On the other hand, The Ric has a "personality" that is very different depending on what strings you use (Flatwound or Roundwound)
