: What is the difference between 4ohms or 8ohms when it comes to buying an amp or speaker cabs. Can anyone help or explain it simply? Does it change the sound?
For transistor or MOSFET amps, the lower the impedance (ohms), the more power you get. Most transistor amps can handle loads between 8 and 4 ohms.
Do NOT attach impedances lower than the lowest impedance specified.
For tube amps, there is no difference. You have to adjust the output selector for the corresponding speaker impedance and you'll alway get maximum power.
