As a builder I wonder where the instrument is going, what bass players really want in their instruments, and how it is that all you great bassists get overlooked by periodicals. Are you content with the merits of past achievements? How many times can you read the same old information about expired artists? This is a new era with more challenges in music. The instruments are more technically developed with excellent electronics, yet we often encounter the idols of the past, routinely and to an insulting fault. I recently voiced my opinion to Bassics magazine about the "Jaco" edition. Yes, he deserves credit and praise for his devotion gifts to the music world, but...how many times a year is it of any value to todays players? I feel bad that these artists died and could not develop in to their old age, but haven't today's players taken this knowledge to another level? Today's periodicals don't acknowledge that the world needs a fresh view. I sincerely hope you bassists out there communicate more with publishers...if you agree.
