: : Hi

: : I would very much appreciate your help on this one. I have found a (in my opinion) very strange Hofner 500/1. It looks as if it was built in the late 60's or early 70's because of the printed logo on the headstock. The strange thing about this bass is the controls: all of the knobs, together with some strange switches ("boost" and so on), are located on some kind of plate that "follows" the edge of the bass! I have never seen one like this before.

: : I think a pic will make "identification" of this bass much easier:

: : Thank you!
: early catalogs show that bass to be a 5000/1 B OR 5000/1M luxury bass same as the 500/1 design and finish came out around 1967 it came with a built in ass booster and it would also have custom inlayings

I own one of these (which is actually for sale at the moment). It is in fact a 500/1B "Bass Booster" model.Mine is a '69 and although it doesnt quite look the same as McCartney's it is overall a much louder bass.It also allows for a lot more versatility.
