Can anyone help? - I need to re-fit a tailpiece to a 2Xbass and I'm not sure how it goes. At the bottom of the bass body there's a little shaped ebony (?) rib stuck onto the very bottom of the front - say>>>> 7cms X 1 cms X 1cms - there are no holes in it and it i9s slightly wedge-shaped - it looks like the tailpiece might butt up against this, or rock over it, as the underside of the tailpice is angled at the base. I'm assuming that the tailpice is wired/gut-trapped onto the wooden collar of the end pin, but what function does the little rib fulfil - is it just there as an body-edge protector or does it have a more precise function? - e.g. to allow tailpiece angled-movement, or simply to locate the tailpiece position? Why does the taipiece have an underside bevel at it lowest point - to allow some rocking? or is it just a traditional shape?
Would be gratful of some advice before I go ahead and string everything up - and then find I've done it all wrong!!!!
