: I'm looking for anyone who has information regarding these basses. As far as my logic tells me, it is a nice copy of an older bass. The label inside says "Georg Anton Schuster Geigenmacher Wein, Anno 1788" then underneath that is printed in english: "made in Germany". Obviously this bass wasn't made in 1788, nor in Vienna, probably more like 1988 in Frankfurt!, but it is a good playing instrument, solid wood, w/ a very nice tone. Does anyone have any experience with or knowledge of these basses? I'm just curious about it and what it may be worth these days. I'm not selling it though, sounds too good in the studio! Also I'm looking for a decent Pollmann or Jusek bass to set up for classical, I need a bargain, wouldn't mind fixing some things. Thanks and kudos to the website!

During the past 4 years we have sold two Schuster basses like you describe. One for approx $6500 the other for approx $8K. Today we have in our stock a 50 year old Jusek in good condition loud and nice tone, $6500. Pollmann basses used in our stock right now start at $14,500, but this is a 25 year old signed instrument. Other newer Pollmann's are also in stock, mostly for jazz today, but orchestral instruments including the Emperor are on order and should be in stock in April, and again in June.
