Pete, I have heard the Meyer recordings. I borrowed the cd and listened 4 or 5 times in its entirety. It's very pretty and his intonation is incredible. I think it lacks intensity because of a relentless "sul tasto" performance; also the lack of vibrato in very many instances results in expressive shortcomings. It is, as I said, very pretty but lacks the depth and engaging power of the Karr performance.
What's your opinion?
Alexander

: Alexander, have you heard the Meyer recording? If so, what do you think of that?

: : Pete,
: : Gary recorded the first three suites, I'm sure you can find it on his web site www.garykarr.com. It is an astounding performance which doesn't require any excuses for the instrument. In my opinion he is the only one to have made such a recording.
