: Rufus Reid is one jazz player who does it all in jazz, but could make it in the classical world too if he wanted to -- he was a very serious student of the Chicago Symphony's Warren Benfield even after he was quite a big name in jazz. A helluva nice guy, too.
: But my vote for my favorite, "burn it down," jazz bass CUT ever, was Stanley Clarke, playing with Chick Corea and Jean Luc Ponty on "Armando's Rhumba," which you can find on the Corea CD "My Spanish Heart." This was an example of "More is more." Not the Count Basie approach by any means...
: : Anyone want to start this thread? Post your favorite bass players here...we can dod differernt styles as well..I guess this would be improv, but for me it's all about Gary Peacock and Drew Gress...let's hear some opinions..
I've never listened to Rufus Reid much, can you reccomend any good, grooving recordings by him? I figuire I should start as I get to participate in a workshop with him at the 2001 ISB convention. Nice to see someone who is talented in both forms.
