: : Velvet has 4 different strings: Animus,Garbo, Compas360 & Compas180.
: : Has anyone tried these? Do you like them? How do they differ? Thanks, Larry

: My bass was mounted with Compas360 when I bought it: they are round metal-wire wound synthetic core strings with much bigger diameter and lower tension.
: They had a rather trebly sound, quite nice pizz and not too good bow. For bowing, you'd like to move up or down the bow along the string length to adjust the sound, and the grooves on the surface of round wound string is counter productive for that purpose.
: I've heard that Velvet has scaled-up (or out-contracted?) its production, and that the string tension has increased a bit.
: Compas180 is flat wound but I have not tried them. I have tried recently the Anima: nice wound gut strings great for pizz and, again, did not like arco sound. It was on a Jacquet bass...

: I don't know your background, Larry, Velvet are non-conventional strings, you may like them, but you should try them first because they are expensive too.

Consider trying Pirastro Obligato synthetic core strings. You have to try
strings to understand how they will work on your bass,
under your fingers, with your ears. Good Luck!
