: : Can anyone recommend a mail or internet order source for doublebass string sets?
: : My junior size bass came with black tapewound strings(Picato Rockabilly?)which are way too quiet(I jam along with CD's on a $30 boombox;the boombox wins the volume battle everytime. My luthier,Danny McKenna(McAllen,Texas)recommends SuperSensitive smoothwounds-does anyone have any experience with these?

: Well. I can't tell you much because I don't know what you are into (arco, pizz, or both) but I can give you a # to call to get a catalog from Lemur music. The # is 1(800) 246-bass. Sounds as though something might need a soundpost adjustment if your bass won't put out enough volume to even keep up with a boom box. Maybe not...just a hunch. Good luck.
I kind of like Shar Musical Products - www.sharmusic.com. One thing that's kind of nice is that they have little write-ups in their catalog on the different kinds of strings, what they're made of and how they sound and feel. It's fairly informative.
I see where the only strings they have specifically for a "junior size" bass is Super-Super Red Labels. Those have never been a real favorite of mine personally, but sticking with something made for the smaller bass is probably a good idea.
