: When I was in Jr.high school(Brooklyn,NY) in the 1960's,I got to hear a lot of what were called "society bands"-small groups that played at weddings, bar mitzvahs, etc. I recall that a lot of the older bass players would take a cheap vocal mike, wrap it in foam rubber and tape it onto the tailpieces of their double basses. The mike was then plugged into either an Ampeg B-15 or a Sano(accordion amp;this seemed to work Ok. Has anyone out there ever tried this?

: Also, where can I get a pick-up for my junior-size bass that won't cost too much. My playing is mostly jamming with other amateurs at low volume(Jazz standards,C&W,Folk);I use a 50W Peavey amp for electric bass, but I want to play my upright at jams as well.

For a few bucks less than the Underwood, you can get the K&K Bass Max pickup. I just got one through Bob Gollihur, and it sounds much more natural than my Underwood did. The Underwood was pretty good, but I like the K&K better. Just my two cents. Wanna buy my Underwood?!
