Good upright for $1,500 for pro electric player?

I'm a professional bassist of the electric variety, desperately needing to get things going on upright. I played a barely used Engelhardt M-1 today, which sounded really good and was set up nicely with a new bridge, but the guy wants $1,600 for it, which seems steep for that instrument, since places like Music City sell them for $999. I don't want to pay more than $2,000 including setup for whichever instrument. My questions are:

1) How is that price for a bass that has new strings, new bridge and a good setup? It feels really good to me...

2) What else should I be looking at in that price range?

3) On the M-1, what would one recommend that I change? Sound post? Nut? Endpin?

Thanks so much!
