Bob shoots straight, and I think you'll love the engle when it's set up right. Most really good bassists I know use a plywood bass on gigs anyway, because who wants to bring an expensive carved instrument into a bar, on an outdoor gig in the sun, etc. etc.

Strings make a big difference, and sadly they are expensive to try. But you'll love playing the upright
