: Just wondering if anyone had played a new S-9 Engelhardt lately? My struggle to find that perfect old bass is about to get the best of me. I am thinking of buying a new S-9 and making modifications as I go along. I know it would be new but with the high quality construction they claim to have on their top of the line basses, I am leaning a little towards it. Any comments?

Engelhardt was a little spotty there, but has been putting out consistently decent instruments lately. They have stopped using the cheapie Supersensitive strings and are installing Labella 610 strings on them, which are far better. They are also pretty well set up right out of the box-- of course, you can make improvements, but none are absolutely necessary right away.
