the answer in your own post !
Hi Pete !

I have not found a clear line between a good bass and the wood used.
You will find fantastic sounding basses with attribution and high prices
made of less quality wood. Also "high end" basses made of marvelous
flamed maple and straight close grain spurce but how do they sound ?

To me Pöllman basses are a typicall example of the last.
Excusite workmanship with top quality woods...but how do they sound ?

I would never judge a bass by the wood used. But it can be a part
of the overall judgement.
Kind regards
cv
