: I need the help of you experts-Bob G,Rick Laird(Did you write the Jazz Riffs book, thats bending my cerebral cortex out of shape?)and Senor Andreas Semilla(Andy Seed).
: You all are familiar with the on-going saga of "La Rancharita",my recently acquired 5/8(mas o menos)size Mexican DB of unknown paternity and a sorted past.
: Tonight,I will attempt to:
: 1}Epoxy a thin sheet of wood around the endpin in order to stop it from pulling diagonally out of its hole.
: 2)Replace the bailing wire holding the tailpiece with aircraft cable and a brass hex nut collar(from Lemur).
: 3)Restring with Corelli 370 Fort Tirant.
: Please advise, especially about the proper way to tie the stings on the tuning machines. I tried to find a website on Bob G's list to tell how to do this, but without success.
The installation of the Lemur cable is pretty easy, just make sure the brass collar is plenty tight.
Nothing fancy there, just shove the string end into the hole perhaps a 1/2 inch through and begin the turns, keeping tension on the string as you wind it. Depending on how much excess length there is, I'll sometimes start winding away from the eventual "tail" location and then cross over my windings to the "right" side so the string ends up tailing directly to the nut slot. Some folks don't like to do the crossover, but I've never seen it hurt anything and have used it with the Corellis myself.
ENJOY "La Rancharita" and keep us informed!
