Sorry to hear about your bad luck, I've had my Woods since 1997 with no operating problems (or problems of any kind at all). I have had personal contact with 2 different musicians (Mike Formanek over 15 years and Richie Iaconna over 8 years) who have had 0 problems.
Additional anecdotal evidence from almost every bassist I speak with still leads me to believe that your problems are more an aberration than even anomaly. I HAVE played through Polytone, SWR, GK and found them incapable of consistently giving me the sound I get when I play without an amp.
If I had to make the choice now of signing on to the waiting list for a Woods or just getting a Clarus, that would be difficult. But given the aforementioned options it wasn't. The WT I only have had one experience with. A bassist of my acquaintance who used one (Steve Doyle) called me to borrow the Woods for a gig cause his Traveller kept cutting out...
