I have used the solid core jazz strings by Picato. They have a VERY gut-like tone, and are extremely easy to bow. They don't have quite the volume of the Spirocore, or Helicore Pizz., but the sound quality is very good. I have them on my 1934 Hawkes bass. The bass naturally has a lot of volume, so I don't have a problem acoustically. They don't last all that long though.
