I think Obligato are much better, except for the E which would not respond adequatly to arco playing, IMHO. In fact this is a general problem of E string: its heavy weight makes it difficult to be set in motion to produce sound. A higher tension Dominant E responds faster and louder and I can catch say a low G "on the fly" that can be heard. I have only tried an E Dominant and based on that, I would think that Dominant have higher tension, are scratchier and louder than Obligato.
I hope this helps, although it does not answer completely Al's question. Anyone who has done A/B comparison with full sets is welcome to report the resulting impressions.
