: I am looking to get a new pickup for my Double bass. I would like a high end system, as I have gone through underwoods/fishmans etc. not being happy with the sound. What are the advantages of each of the multi transducer pickups? Do they need a pre-amp?

Barbera is my all-time favorite. Several times I had two pickups on the bass, and before a gig I would A-B them. My band mates always voted for the Barbera.
Expensive - $650-750 for a new bridge and the inlay work. And if you sell the bass, it's almost certain you can't reuse the bridge. I don't trust the design of the Wilson, but in truth, I've never played through one. Barbera has the most immediate response I've ever heard, and it has been the nearest to natural sound for me. It's a giant leap of faith. You can't try it out like a Fishman or a Realist. Don't know if this helped.
