I think Mingus would've laughed at the set-ups most players use nowadays. I read
an anecdote about when he played in a band with two bassists (maybe Ellington's).
Well, the other bassist began using a pick-up (very very early model) and an amp.
In response Ming switched to a taller bridge, raising his action, and heavier gut
strings.
