I purchased a Strunal last fall and have been extremely happy with it. The sound is very good, not real closed like some plywood basses can be. I should say, however, that I purchased the bass from David Gage who took great pains to ensure that the bass was excellent. Sam Ahs also sells the basses, however, the ones I have played at Ash were not up to the same level as the one from David. See his website at www.davidgage.com. First, David selects the best bass from Strunal (and sends the bad ones back to Strunal). Then, he does a complete setup on the bass including replacing the bridge, sound post and tail wire. He also dresses the fingerboard and even puts some nice strings of my choice. Needless to say, I am very impressed with his work and beleive his work made my Strunal what it is today. So, I would recommend the Strunal, but I would also recommend a good set-up by a good luthier like David.

Cheers
