: I'm not familiar with the Korean Universe, but the Strunal's are better than average beginner basses, which I wouldn't hesitate to recommend. With a good set-up, they will be a good choice, and when you are ready to move up to a better bass, you will have a much easier time selling the Strunal than any Oriental made bass. Because there are so many terrible Chinese basses out there, especially the two you mention, it makes selling any of them hard, even ones that are good instruments like Chen or Tian Yen.
: Gut strings were used all the way up until the 60's. Yes they are bowable, but they are harder to bow than steel and tend to be scratchy, more prone to breakage (especially unwrapped D and G), and tremendously expensive. The pizz sound is really nice though.
: : Thanks
Thanks for all the replies i've got. i hope i will have my upright early next one, and i hope it would be my best choice for now.
