The best, fattest sound is acheived with just the index finger pointing towards
the bridge, pulling the string from the middle knuckle. There are times when the
first and second fingers alternate, like when tempos are insanely fast or when
you're playing a kick or ghost kick on an adjacent string. Even when alternating
fingers, keep them pointed towards the bridge and use as much of each finger as
possible without them getting in the way of each other. Mike Richmond did a
great job of covering right hand technique in his modern basslines book, the exact
title of which escapes me right now.
