: Looking for an upright suitable for my blues/rock gig - in Bay Area (San Jose)willing to travel for right instrument. Louder is better - heard that older Kay's are good in this respect, also the new Engelhardt's? Comments welcome

It's not so much the bass as the pickup/amp combination that's important -- I've
been playing rockabilly and blues for over 20 years now and have finally found
what I consider to be the perfect setup.
For the slap pickup I use an Ashworth double bass note pickup on the belly
of the bass adjacent to the neck and for the note pickup I use a Rich Barbera
pickup system built into my bridge.I run both of these through a stereo lead into a Fishman Bass Blender and from there into an Acoustic Image Contra amp which has been modified to have a power amp in the extension cab as well as the main amp --- this gives me a TRUE power of 360 watts which I think is plenty of power for most situations,if you need any more plug into the venue P.A !!!
If you need to know any more e-mail me at "andyseed@onmail.co.uk"
I hope this has been of some help,
Andy.
